Thyroid disorders are prevalent, with women being significantly more susceptible—about 5-8 times more likely to develop these conditions compared to men. In the United States, an estimated 20 million individuals live with some form of thyroid disease, with a concerning 13 million cases remaining undiagnosed.
Screening for thyroid issues is particularly recommended for the following groups:
- Women aged between 30 and 50
- Individuals experiencing unexplained weight loss and fatigue
- Those with a family history of goiter or residing in regions with a high goiter prevalence
- People previously diagnosed with thyroid disorders like goiter, Graves' disease, or Hashimoto's thyroiditis
- Individuals with a history of radiation exposure
